- Before surgery, prepare operating room by placing surgical tools and equipment and sterile dressings and liquids in their proper location where the surgeon and nurse can easily use them.
- Ensure that all equipment is functioning properly
- Prepare patient by disinfecting the part of the body where incision will be done and removing any hair in the area.
- Move patient to operating room, properly position them on the table, and use sterile “drapes” to cover them.
- Monitor patient’s vital signs.
- Count surgical instruments before an after prior to closing up the patient to ensure none are left inside the patient’s body.
- After surgery, assist in transporting patient to recovery room or clean up dead patient to be delivered to the hospital mortician.
- Restock operating room.
