The Nuclear Power Reactor Operator is part of the hand-on crew responsible in operating a military or civilian nuclear power plant. Working from a monitoring and control console from a safe enclosed distance from the fission reactor, the operator is in charge in starting up, shutting down and directly altering the level of reactivity of the nuclear reactor, monitoring its performance parameters and responding to unusual reactor activity that prevent reaching critical reactivity levels.
