Every indoor or outdoor swimming pool, public beach, river or lakeshore recreational facility has at least one lifeguard. For popular beaches and resorts, there are lifeguards stationed at various strategic points or time shifts of the day and are tasked to spot and rescue swimmers in distress, resuscitate and transport the victim to the nearest hospital if needed. They mostly work part time during the summer months while working part time as a fitness trainer in athletic gyms, physical education instructor in secondary schools or in private beach resorts.
