Almost everything has been bought or sold through auctions: antiques, artwork, stamps, jewelry, coins and books being the most common.   That’s what auctioneers do best, often specializing in certain goods like jewelry, livestock, orchids, etc. You may have seen them in movies with their rhythmic chanting to keep the steady flow of bids until the last highest bid closes the auction for the item. It is the auctioneer’s job to obtain the best price possible for an item awarding it to the highest bidder.
